Code 39
History
Developed in 1974 by Intermec and was the first alphanumeric barcode and is still the most widely used barcode. Code 39 encodes both numbers, uppercase letters and is read by most scanners.
Specification
Full Alphanumeric barcode with use of optional Modulo 43 check digit.
Supports Extended character set by use of special symbols to allow the encoding of lowercase letters and extra punctuation, this however will double the length of the barcode.
